Q & A's

Why Should I Hire a Copywriter?

So why should I hire a copywriter when I know how to write?
Copywriters are specialists, and we specialize in one thing: producing excellent, targeted copy that attracts your prospective buyers and gets them to buy. Just like with anything else-when you want the best, you hire a specialist.

You're not only paying a copywriter to write - you're paying them to think.
Thinking is the foundation for effective copywriting. A good copywriter takes time to develop a solid strategy before taking action-before committing to any specific copy. After a strategy is agreed upon, specific words are chosen to express and enhance the desired message.

Good writing is all I need, right?
Too many people simply present the facts and think their writing is complete. But presenting a potential buyer with facts is rarely enough to make a sale. Copywriters use the written word to sell a product by connecting with a prospect's needs and emotions.

Remember what your mother said - practice makes perfect.
Copywriters specialize in writing marketing and sales copy. We do it every day, we've done it for years, and we do it for all kinds of products. The simple message here: if you want the best results, you are better off with a professional.

Questions about Your Work

How do you quote projects?
In usually quote flat project fees. This helps you know what to expect and avoid surprises. In some cases - where the project is not clearly defined or is ongoing - I may quote an hourly rate instead.
However, even in these cases, I will include a total project time estimate so you know, before you hire me, what the total estimated fee range is. I base my project fees on several factors, such as the kind of copy you need, the product or service being marketed, the call to action, and how much existing materials there are to work from.
I am not an "hourly rate" copywriter. Sure, my fees are partly based on the time it will take to draft the copy. However, I also factor in what the project is worth; based on the value I bring to the table.
I dig deep into the product or service and into your audience. I examine your competitive position. I put forth the extra effort to find the hidden gems that will make your copy that much more effective.

What do you need from us to get started?
1) Fee Agreement & Payment
First, I will need the fee agreement (the project quote I furnish you) signed and faxed back. I also require 50 percent of the flat project fee to begin work. I invoice the other 50 percent one week after submitting the initial draft, and that amount is due within 15 days of the invoice date. This gives you a little over 3 weeks (from the day you receive my initial draft) to submit the balance.

2) Creative Brief
I will also need some important information regarding your product/service, offer (if any), target audience, competition and so on. In order to gather most of this information in an efficient manner, I provide you with a straightforward creative brief to fill out and send back.

Once I get the answers to the creative brief - along with any other helpful background information - I will probably have some questions. I will contact you to schedule a convenient time to discuss them.

How long before I see my copy?
This mostly depends on what you need written. I usually ask for two weeks on most projects. Some projects - such as copy for a large website -often require more time.

Of course, I realize you may not have this much time. If you have a "rush" job, make sure to contact me anyway. Give me an idea of what you need and I will tell you if I can meet the deadline.

My bottom line: I will NOT miss your deadline. If I take on the project, I guarantee I will have the copy to you on or before the promised date.

How do you handle revisions?
I include two sets of requested revisions. These are included in the flat fee I quote you. The only conditions are that they are assigned within 30 days of your receipt of the copy, and that they do not involve a change in direction, scope or format.

When I submit a draft, most clients are very happy with my work. However, should you not be completely satisfied, I will gladly revise the copy to your liking and at my expense. All I ask is that you tell me exactly how and where the copy is missing the mark.

Is your work guaranteed?
With direct response copy, I simply cannot predict how many responses or inquiries you will get. No reputable copywriter can. However, I guarantee that you'll be satisfied with my copy when you receive it.
